Our Directors

The Senior Team at calculis

Paul Oliver – Managing Director

Paul is the managing director and has almost 40 years’ experience, combined with modern and up-to-date product knowledge, a keen desire to embrace change and an understanding of people’s needs.

Among his many roles, he has operated specialist pension funds and been a partner and shareholder in IFA firms since 1988.

Paul holds the Certificate in Financial Planning and is a member of The Personal Finance Society. He holds additional qualifications in savings, investments, pension investment, mortgage advice and equity-release schemes and has acted as an approved supervisor to independent financial advisers. Paul has specialist knowledge of company pension schemes, business-protection insurance and corporate benefit schemes.

A committed family man, Paul is married and has two adult daughters, each with her own career – in television and the world of music/entertainment. Paul is a keen sailor and member of The Royal Air Force Yacht Club. He enjoys golf, music, walking and helping people in his local community.

Alex Pegley – Director

Alex is a co-director in calculis limited. He has worked in financial services since graduating in 1997 with an honours degree in demography. His academic background is particularly relevant when considering population trends and their impact on not just life expectancy, but also economic development and investment strategy.

Alex was one of the first thousand professionals to become a chartered financial planner. He is proud to be the Chairman of the regional Personal Finance Society and to be involved in delivering higher-level training and expertise to other financial advisers in Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

In 2005, Alex completed the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate, acquiring his chartered status in 2007. He is qualified to deal with all aspects of financial advice but especially likes getting his teeth into more complex cases such as inheritance tax planning and specialist pensions such as SIPPs and SSASs. Alex holds specialist FSA permissions in pension transfers.

Although Alex reached the ‘gold standard’ for our industry in 2007, he strives continually to build on his professional knowledge and provide holistic advice to his clients; as such, he has recently begun studying to become a STEP practitioner (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners).

He is regularly asked to comment, in the national and trade press, on the economy and financial-planning issues. He also features frequently on BBC Radio Solent, Radio Surrey and Radio Sussex.

Outside of work, his interests centre on his young family. He also finds time to pursue an interest in winter sports, an active membership of Junior Chamber International and an avid reader of contemporary and classic fiction.
